CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) – Chesterfield Fire and EMS is conducting training on the Pocahantas Parkway bridge this week to simulate crash rescue efforts. The Virginia Department of Transportation warns drivers to take caution.

This week from Wednesday through Friday, a currently unused shoulder of Pocahontas Parkway will be used by firefighters to rappel from. This training follows real life crash where the cab of a tractor trailer was hanging off the Varina-Enon bridge earlier this year:

Fire and EMS officials wish to further prepare their Technical Rescue Team in a stressful and realistic environment to prepare them for a real emergency.

VDOT will have signs alerting drivers to the training.
