LUMBERTON — The Robeson County government was the victim of a cybersecurity breach last year, affecting the personal data of around 1,700 individuals. Now, in response, the county is working to vastly improve its cybersecurity to guard against future breaches.
RansomHub, a ransomware operation based in Russia, accessed data between April 7-10, 2024. The incident has been under investigation in the year-plus since, involving both state and federal agencies.
Through that investigation, the county has determined that the name, driver’s license number and Social Security number of some individuals was obtained. The county has recently notified affected individuals by sending them a letter, and has also made public notices both in The Robesonian and on the county website that a breach occurre
