When asked during his introductory news conference why he’s confident in maintaining Auburn basketball’s success, Steven Pearl pointed to the group of people standing stage right.

“We have the best staff in college basketball,” Pearl said as he pointed to his assistant coaches. “That’s why. This has nothing to do with me.”

Earlier in the news conference, he announced that assistant coach Ira Bowman will be promoted to associate head coach, the role Pearl held before becoming head coach.

Bowman has been on Auburn’s staff since 2018 and was a part of both Final Four runs under Bruce Pearl.

“He is one of the best assistant coaches in all of college basketball, and he is ready to be a head coach,” Steven Pearl said of Bowman. “He’s one of the best player development guys in all the game. H
