Honolulu police said a 44-year-old man died Tuesday night after a moped crash in Kalihi.

The collision happened about 7:45 p.m. on North King Street east of Umi Street, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section.

Police said the man was traveling eastbound on North King Street when he lost control and was ejected onto the roadway. He was then struck by a 60-year-old man driving westbound on North King Street who was turning left into a driveway.

The moped rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken in critical condition to an area hospital, where he later died.

The 60-year-old motorist was not injured and remained at the scene, police said.

It is unknown at this time whether speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
