It’s not an exaggeration to claim that our nation’s museums, libraries, and archives are under attack. The Trump administration’s FY 2026 budget didn’t include any funding for either the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum or the yet-to-be-built National Museum of the American Latino. The former has been operating since 1967, and its archives are a trove of local history and a site of active academic work.
