IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A Capuchin monkey that escaped from Zootastic Park in Troutman last week was hit by a vehicle, Iredell County officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The monkey got loose from the facility last Wednesday. A video posted on social media appeared to show the monkey climbing on power lines in the area. Iredell County Animal Services confirmed that the monkey was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday in the Troutman area.
The agency confirmed the animal was still alive when it was returned to its owner. The county hasn't provided an update on the monkey's condition as of Wednesday morning. No further details about the incident have been made public.
