NEW YORK STATE (WWTI) - Anglers will get another chance to cast their lines without a license this coming weekend.

The New York State Department will host its next Free Fishing Day on Saturday, Sept. 27. The free fishing day coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day, which was first authorized by Congress in 1972.

The event was started to encourage people to experience, understand, and appreciate traditional outdoor sports and recreation and abundant natural resources, while also recognizing hunters and anglers for their leadership in fish and wildlife conservation.

The free fishing days allow state residents and non-residents to fish for free without a fishing license.
