The government on Wednesday announced restrictions on the import of certain silver jewellery items. The decision, aimed at tightening trade rules and preventing misuse of free trade agreements, will remain in force till March 31, 2026.

Notification issued by DGFT According to the notification released by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), the import policy for specific silver jewellery categories has been changed. Earlier, these products were placed under the “free” import list, which allowed trade without special permission. With immediate effect, they have now been shifted to the “restricted” category. This change makes it mandatory for importers to obtain prior government approval or a licence before bringing such silver jewellery items into the country. The
