HOUSTON (KIAH) -- NASA is gearing up for a mission that could shape the next era of human exploration. Artemis II, the agency’s highly anticipated flight around the Moon, is being designed with one goal in mind: to prove that astronauts can safely travel farther than anyone has gone in more than 50 years.
“Artemis II is built upon numerous tests throughout the course of multiple years, and it helped inform how we were going to fly this mission, said Rick Henfling, Artemis II entry flight director. Henfling joined other NASA members on a panel to explain to the media the intricate details that have taken years to perfect to get to the point Artemis II is at now.
The plan is for four astronauts to board the Orion spacecraft for the journey. They will circle the Moon before returning home.
