Florida will get $3 million as part of a nationwide settlement between the federal government, most state governments and Gilead Sciences, a drug manufacturer accused of giving kickbacks to doctors to promote HIV drugs.
Attorney General James Uthmeier revealed the Sunshine State’s share of the settlement Sept. 24.
“Big Pharma corporations that put profits ahead of patients by unlawfully promoting drugs will be held accountable,” Uthmeier said in a statement.
Under the national settlement, announced in April by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Gilead agreed to pay $202 million, with $176.9 million going to the federal government.
