A man shot by Birmingham police has been convicted on drug and gun charges.

A federal jury in Birmingham convicted 29-year-old Jaylin Artez Patton after three days of testimony, according to Northern District of Alabama U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona.

Patton, who was shot by officers in 2024, was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a machine gun, possession of fentanyl and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

Patton, on the day he was shot by Birmingham police after a brief interstate chase and foot chase, was armed with a gun that was outfitted with a machine gun conversion device designed for firing more than one shot automatically, without reloading, with a single pull of the trigger, according to court records.
