Montgomery County, Maryland, leaders say they decided to cancel an upcoming celebration of Hispanic heritage because of concerns the festival could be a target for potential immigration enforcement.
The festival was scheduled to take place on Oct. 12 at the Marian Fryer Town Plaza in Wheaton, which has a large Hispanic population.

County Executive Marc Elrich said his team heard from community members and event partners, who wanted them to cancel amid immigration crackdowns led by the Trump administration.
"People are self-selecting when they go out and when they expose themselves. It’s sad to see people doing that. I just think individuals have to decide what they think the risk is and how vulnerable they feel," Elric
