The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of active-duty Police Officer William “Bill” Cater, who served in the Motor Unit.
Cater died Sunday after a brave battle with cancer, JSO said.
“Bill was a friend to many in our agency and community. He put his faith and family first,” JSO said in a statement about the officer’s passing.
Cater joined the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 2003 and fulfilled his dream of working in traffic when joined the JSO Motor Unit in 2017, merging his passion for traffic safety with motorcycles.
Cater was named Motorman of the Year in 2023.
