GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has charged a middle school student with making a threat at a middle school.

Deputies detained the 14-year-old for typing a threat to blow up Rosemary Middle School on his school-issued computer after the Georgetown County School District’s online monitoring system, Lightspeed, discovered the threat. The school’s Safety Department and the School Resource Officers were also alerted.

Sheriff spokesman Jason Lesley said deputies searched the student’s home, but did not uncover any bomb-making materials.

He was released to his parents and will be subject to the district’s disciplinary policy.

The school operated back to normal conditions following the incident.
