Mounties are urging residents in communities surrounding Calgary to be vigilant following a recent spike in overnight residential break-ins.

Since late August, the RCMP in Southern Alberta have received multiple reports of homes being broken into between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., while the residents were asleep.

According to investigators, suspects are gaining access through unlocked sliding doors and windows, often cutting screens to slip inside undetected.

Once inside, they target easily accessible items such as purses, small electronics, and vehicle keys. In several cases, vehicles parked in driveways or garages have also been stolen.
