National, state, and local leaders are blaming anti-ICE rhetoric for spurring recent incidents, including Wednesday’s shooting at an ICE facility in Dallas that left one detainee dead and two others in critical condition.

“I can confirm at this time that the FBI is investigating this incident as an act of targeted violence. It is, unfortunately, just the most recent example we’ve seen of targeted violence,” said Joe Rothrock, Dallas FBI field office special agent in charge.

Investigators have identified the gunman, who died by suicide, as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn. Investigators have not yet confirmed a motive for the shooting.
