Tropical Storm Humberto formed on the afternoon of Sept. 24 in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean, the National Hurricane Center said. It's the 8th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.
As of 5 p.m. ET, the center of Humberto was located about 550 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, the hurricane center said. It had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and was moving to the west-northwest at 15 mph.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
The storm is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane as it moves northwest across the Atlantic Ocean over the next few days.
The hurricane center, in the 5 p.m. ET forecast discussion about Humberto on Sept. 24, said "there is quite a bit of uncertainty" in regards to the future path of the system. "This is increasingly apparent beyond day 3 as there are complex steering components with timing differences in the global models, including the approaching trough and potential binary interaction with Invest 94L."
Binary interaction is another term to describe the Fujiwhara effect.
