EVERETT — An Everett man died when a driver in a box truck allegedly struck and killed him on I-5 early Wednesday morning near Everett.
Around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, troopers responded to reports of the collision near milepost 189, according to a Washington State Patrol press release.
Both drivers were initially traveling south on I-5. Troopers say Paul Veland, 63, of Everett, had dismounted his 2020 Vespa scooter on the left shoulder of southbound I-5 when the driver of a 2007 Isuzu NQR struck him as he occupied lane 3.
First responders pronounced Veland deceased at the scene. Drugs or alcohol were not involved in the crash, the release said.
