AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - When everyday life came to a halt, countless people dropped everything to help others in their time of need.

Local nonprofits across the CSRA stepped up, ensuring our neighbors had food, water and shelter.

In a time when nothing felt certain, it was the selflessness of volunteers that kept hope alive.

“It’s hard to put into words,” said Major Jonathan Raymer with the Salvation Army of Augusta, reflecting on the destruction Hurricane Helene left behind. “From one night to the next morning … it’s hard to put into words.”

Helene is a name the CSRA will never forget. The most destructive storm our region has ever seen.
