ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A man was charged Wednesday after police say he struck and dragged a pedestrian downtown, resulting in “gruesome” injuries.

St. Louis City Prosecutors charged 32-year-old Cory N. Aiono of Nashville with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and leaving the scene of an accident that caused injury. Aiono is being held at the St. Louis City Justice Center without bond.

According to a St. Louis Police affidavit, the crash happened on Monday at the intersection of Chouteau and South 4th Street. Police say the victim was crossing the street at this intersection when Aiono, going west on Chouteau, didn’t yield at the light and struck the victim before turning right onto 4th Street.
