ALLEN PARK -- After making his debut for the team on Monday night, the Detroit Lions have signed Ross Dwelley to bolster their depth at tight end.

Dwelley joined the practice squad after tight end Shane Zylstra (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. The veteran tight end logged four offensive reps and 12 on special teams against the Baltimore Ravens.

The 30-year-old spent last season with the Atlanta Falcons after spending the first six seasons of his career with the San Francisco 49ers. Dwelley has 45 receptions for 523 yards and five touchdowns throughout his eight-year career.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end should continue to see the occasional snap on offense behind Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright, while filling a solid role on special teams.
