Tropical Storm Humberto, which formed Wednesday near the Caribbean islands, was located 465 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph on Thursday morning, forecasters said. It was traveling northwest at 8 mph. Humberto was expected to strengthen significantly to become a hurricane in a day or so over the central Atlantic and a major hurricane over the weekend.
