Tulsa's Saint Francis Hospital announced on Wednesday that it is now a Level 1 Trauma Center.

The designation takes 3 years to earn from the American College of Surgeons.

Trauma 1 Centers offer the highest level of surgical care and treatment for the most severe injuries.

Level 1 hospitals also offer 24/7 access to both surgeons and specialists, as well as rehabilitation services. They also participate in medical research programs.

That now makes two Level 1 facilities here in Tulsa, with St. John Hospital announcing its Level 1 designation last month.
