KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A department-issued gun was stolen from the vehicle of an off-duty Kalamazoo County deputy Tuesday, police say.

It happened around 7 p.m. in the 4200 block of Portage Street near Kilgore Road in Kalamazoo, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety told News 8. It said the gun, a department-issued rifle, was stolen from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office deputy's personal vehicle.

The sheriff's office also confirmed the theft.

“We did have an employee who was the victim of a larceny from vehicle yesterday evening," the sheriff's office said in a statement to News 8. "It did involve a firearm being stolen from their vehicle."
