Abundant Harvest plans to stay open and available throughout the remainder of 2025, with the aid of the City of Emporia and United Way of the Flint Hills (UWFH).
The City of Emporia will be contracting with UWFH, and UWFH will partner with Emporia Rescue Mission to maintain program services throughout the year.
UWFH will manage operations, coordinate with volunteers, collect food and supplies, and operate services. The City of Emporia plans to allocate an additional $25,000 to keep services running.
Abundant Harvest, a major food pantry serving Emporia, announced its initial closure by October 1 in early September. UWFH and the City of Emporia began talks to keep the pantry afloat following the public announcement, and announced its continuation through 2025 on Sept. 3.
