ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- Saint Martinville Senior High's homecoming festivities will undergo significant changes this year following a tragic shooting at last year's event that claimed the life of 25-year-old Deion'Dre Benjamin.
In response to the shooting incident at last year's homecoming game, where Deion'Dre Benjamin was killed, St. Martinville Police Chief, Ricky Martin said they will implement new safety measures to ensure the community can safely come together for this year's events.
"Last year was a chance of opportunity I think for the person to do what they did when they met up with him, and it just kind of escalated from there and turned into what it did," said Martin.
