LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Siena University and DNA Finders are teaming up to host the second annual New York State Cold Case Day.

Experts said a case becomes "cold" when all available leads are exhausted, yet the case remains open and unsolved after three or more years. With developments in technology, university officials said cold cases are being reviewed to determine if new forensic testing can produce any potential leads.

Organizers said the event will feature panelists to discuss the status of current cold cases and what can be done to solve them.

"And that's we can forget about cold cases," DNA Finders CEO and Siena professor Tobi Kirschmann said. "Even though something may have happened in the 1950s, for example, we can still solve that case today."
