CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Stone Cummins’ season came to an abrupt halt in 2024 when he had a season-ending back injury. He took that time to become a student-coach.
His head coach, Tyler Staker, said it was a beneficial experience.
“He took that time off and became a student-coach. I think that provided a really cool and unique perspective for him. He got a chance to not only see it as a player, but as a coach, and all the details that go into it. I think it’s made him a better football player,” said Staker.
“You really see it when you’re not involved in it as much. You can see how being a player-led team is important,” Cummins agreed.
Cummins especially enjoyed it because he wants to coach after he’s done playing.
