Homebuilders in Kansas City are upset about the recently passed building codes that require them to install expensive equipment like the energy recovery ventilators in new builds.

On Capitol Hill last week, Kansas City homebuilder Brian Tebbenkamp testified in a House hearing taking a closer look at recent energy conservation codes.

Kansas City was among the first to adopt those codes in 2023, which the federal government heavily incentivized to boost energy efficiency.

Since then, homebuilding has greatly slowed within Kansas City because builders say the codes are too restrictive.
