WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rachel Crafton, who lost her husband Casey in a tragic crash over the Potomac River, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against American Airlines, PSA Airlines and the federal government.
In a press conference, Crafton's attorney, Robert A. Clifford, spoke about the crash of American Eagle 5342.
"The crash of American Eagle 5342 was predictable, it was preventable, and caused the needless loss of 67 lives on that fateful evening," Clifford said.
The lawsuit alleges that the defendants should have been aware of the safety risks in that airspace. It also accuses the pilots of both aircraft of failing to see and avoid each other.
American Airlines released a statement expressing their continued mourning for the loss of life but attributed the crash to military fault.
