The Seattle Kraken have been hit with the injury bug — and the regular season hasn’t even begun.
Forward Kaapo Kakko exited Wednesday’s pre-season game against the Edmonton Oilers after taking a slash to the hand in the first period. The Kraken later announced that he sustained an upper-body injury and would not return to the game.
Kakko, 24, was acquired by the Kraken from the New York Rangers in December 2024 and played 49 games with Seattle last season, scoring 10 goals and registering 30 points in that time.
He had just 14 points in 30 games for New York prior to his trade.
