ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Healthcare union 1199SEIU and the Healthcare Education Project (HEP) are recognizing local leaders for protecting healthcare access as New York faces $8 billion in federal funding cuts.

The 2nd annual HEP Community Appreciation Luncheon was held on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Lake Riley Lodge in Cobb’s Hill Park.

Honorees included State Senator Samra Brouk, URMC Strong Memorial Hospital patient care technician Arleata White, and Reverend Ruben Lowry of Second Baptist Church in Mumford.

HEP, a partnership between 1199SEIU and the Greater New York Hospital Association, has worked for over 25 years to expand access to quality, affordable healthcare in New York.
