KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A chain-reaction style crash resulting from another crash led to a deputy’s cruiser being struck Wednesday night on Interstate 79 in the Elkview area, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened just before 8 p.m. at the 7.5-mile marker of I-79 South.
No injuries were reported, although the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said it could have been “a potentially devastating outcome.” Deputies credited the driver of a vehicle that was hit from behind and knocked out of control for preventing a more serious crash.
The KCSO explained that deputies were on scene helping to direct traffic after wet roads contributed to an initial crash.
