NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Food workers at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven voted to authorize a strike on Wednesday.

UNITE HERE Local 217 union members employed by Sodexo, which provides food service to the university, voted 98% in favor of a strike, according to the union. Workers at Central Connecticut State University will hold a strike vote as well next week.

“The union remains ready to negotiate," Local 217 Secretary Josh Stanley said. "We should not have to call a strike as we are simply looking to reach a fair contract in line with other post-Covid contract settlements we are achieving.”
