STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) - Every month, hundreds of families in Storm Lake count on one local food pantry to help put meals on the table. But as demand rises and funding tightens, volunteers are working harder than ever to meet the growing need.
On the fourth Wednesday of every month, it is grocery day for hundreds of families in Storm Lake, Iowa.
“Cars are being lined up out in the parking lot, and then we run two lines by the line of tables,” said organizer Duane Queen.
With the help of the Food Bank of Iowa, the Storm Lake Hy-Noon Kiwanis Mobile Food Pantry sets up shop, and volunteers distribute food to those in need.
“It’s a great feeling,” explained high school volunteer Sebastian Cortez. “It is really fulfilling knowing that this little amount of work does so much for families.”
