COPPERAS COVE, Texas — In one of many townhall meetings hosted by City of Copperas Cove leaders for business owners and residents, leaders weighed in on a proposed street maintenance utility fee. This fee could generate millions of dollars each year for road repairs, but not without pushback from residents and business owners.
The proposal comes in the midst of a back and forth between Coryell County residents and county commissioners over a proposed 8.6% property tax increase.
The fee is part of the city’s “Let’s Fix Our Streets” initiative , which officials say would bring in about $3 million annually dedicated solely to street maintenance.
For residents, the fee would cost up to $10 a month. Business owners, however, would face variable rates, and that uncertainty has drawn
