NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro Water Services is coordinating a new tree-planting project.

The project calls for planting nearly 500 trees along Murfreesboro Pike to Old Murfreesboro Road. The Metro Water Services Department routinely plants trees along the streetscape.

Metro Water Services Urban Forestry Coordinator Mike Jameson said the city is investing in more trees to help with city management. Trees absorb an enormous amount of storm water, bring shade, improve air quality and provide beautification to streetscapes in neighborhoods.

“It’s great for the city; trees do an enormous number of wonderful things from the city management perspective,” Jameson said. “It’s one of the best investments you can have. Every dollar we spend on a tree, we save $3.“
