SPOKANE, Wash. -- If you have expired or unused medication, make sure you dispose of it properly to keep everyone in your home safe and healthy.

On October 25, East Valley Community Coalition will host a Medication Take Back Day.

During the event, you can clean out your medicine cabinets and drop off your expired or unused prescription medications to be disposed.

According to East Valley Community Coalition, unused and expired prescription medications are a public safety issue that can lead to accidental poisoning, overdose or death.

If thrown in the trash, they can be retrieved and either abused or illegally sold, while flushing them down the toilet can contaminate the water supply.
