Donna Nelson, a grandmother from Perth, has lost her appeal against a drug smuggling conviction in Japan. The Tokyo High Court upheld her six-year prison sentence after authorities discovered two kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in the lining of her bag at Narita Airport.
Nelson argued that she was a victim of a love scam and was tricked into carrying the bag containing the drugs. However, the court found her negligent, stating that she must have had suspicions about the contents of her luggage.
On Thursday, the Tokyo High Court dismissed her request to overturn the conviction. The ruling reinforces the original decision, which highlighted concerns about Nelson's awareness of the situation.
Nelson's case has drawn attention due to the circumstances surrounding her arrest and the legal proceedings that followed. Despite her claims of being deceived, the court's ruling indicates a lack of sufficient evidence to support her defense.
