PHOENIX (AZFamily) — From direct messaging to internet memes, bullets or bullet casings with messages found at recent high-profile killings appear to be a trend among the alleged killers.

“Those words on the shell casings got a lot of play. They’re going to use the same thing and that’s the copycat effect,” said retired FBI supervisory special agent Lance Leising.

A killer wanting their messaging to be heard is nothing new, according to Leising. He believes the attention the bullet casings specifically have gotten in these recent cases, both in person and online, may have influenced the shooters.
