HONG KONG – The much weaker Tropical Storm Ragasa pushed west along the southern Chinese coast toward Vietnam on Thursday after flooding streets and homes in the economic hub of Guangdong province and causing deaths in Taiwan and the Philippines.

In parts of the Guangdong city of Yangjiang, tree branches floated on the water in submerged streets. Crews used excavators to clear thousands of toppled trees and worked to clean up blocked main roads. State broadcaster CCTV reported more than 50,000 trees were destroyed across the city and strong winds blew down road signs.
