Whether it’s for a day out or a weekend away, York is always a popular destination thanks to its historic streets, cosy cafes and charming buildings.

In fact earlier this year The Times named it among the best citybreaks in the UK which are perfect for autumn.

But this weekend visitors to York - easily reached from Greater Manchester in around 90 minutes by train or car - are in for a treat as the York Unlocked festival takes place, which sees more than 50 buildings and venues open for free.

Now in its fourth year, it will take place on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday September 28. It includes access to some rarely opened spaces and behind-the-scenes tours.
