LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — Hundreds of families, community members and students and staff from Las Vegas’ Mater Academy East pay tribute to a 12-year-old who died in an e-scooter crash.
7th grader Jovonn Magee-Thomas, nicknamed “JoJo,” passed away Sunday morning after his e-scooter collided with an RTC Paratransit Van near Sandhill Road and Bonanza. LVMPD said Magee-Thomas was the 119th fatality on Las Vegas Valley roads, this year.
At a Wednesday night vigil, people packed the stands at the stadium to support Magee-Thomas’ family and pay tribute to the student’s memory.
Magee-Thomas was described by classmates and teachers as funny, kind, and a star athlete; his flag football jersey #8 will be retired in his memory.
Hundreds of people wore shirts displaying a logo: “Show Love Like Jojo.
