EL CENTRO — The Imperial County Farm Bureau announced its opposition to Proposition 50, a statewide ballot measure up for voter consideration on Tuesday, Nov. 4, arguing that it would undermine California’s independent redistricting process and weaken the political voice of rural communities.

According to the Farm Bureau, Prop 50 would dismantle the work of the Citizens Redistricting Commission, a body created to ensure that political maps are drawn fairly and without partisan influence.

“If passed, the measure would return redistricting power to state lawmakers, a move the ICFB says would allow politicians to craft districts that favor urban areas at the expense of rural regions,” the ICFB wrote on social media.
