Andy Burnham is calling on the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) to scrap the two-child benefit limit.
The Greater Manchester mayor said it represents the “worst of Westminster" and slammed it as "absolutely abhorrent".
First introduced by the Conservative government back in 2017, the two-child limit allows families to claim universal credit and tax credits for up to two children.
In a conversation with the journalist and poverty campaigner Terri White, Burnham said: “I never supported it, its introduction. It can’t be defended, because it’s arbitrary. Why does the third kid just get cut out or get less or why do all three if you’ve got three kids? I’m one of the three kids.
