Longtime ESPN First Take host Molly Qerim left the show and network abruptly last week in a surprising move. Former ESPN employee Marcellus Wiley believes he knows why.

A former NFL player and host of SportsNation , Wiley now hosts a podcast .

During a recent episode, he revealed what led to Molly Qerim leaving First Take and ESPN altogether.

“This is what’s going on behind the scenes, on the real,” Marcellus Wiley began. “Molly was going through a contract negotiation, obviously, and that was not going well. … Because Molly was not getting what she wanted.

What did Molly want? Molly wanted to do other things at the network, which included hosting her own show. … Now, that wasn’t happening."
