DURHAMVILLE, N.Y. (WSY-TV) -- A Durhamville woman has admitted to stealing more than $92,000 from the fire department where she served as treasurer.
Prosecutors say Kimberly Simchik used the Durhamville Fire Department's debit card and deposited checks into her personal account.
"This case started when a member of the fire department went to put money into the department's bank account and was told by the bank that the account had been closed for insufficient funds, which was a surprise to them. They did a little digging, reached out to the state police, and because of Comptroller DiNapoli's ongoing anti-public corruption partnership with the state police, the state police contacted our office, and we jointly launched an investigation of what was going on in the Durhamville Fire Departme
