This Day in History: Damages from Hurricane Rita seen across the region on Sept. 25, 2005

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - On Sept. 25, 2005, the region had to contend with damage Hurricane Rita caused.

Hurricane Rita hit on Sept. 24, 2005, just weeks after Hurricane Katrina.

Cameron Parish was flooded, thousands were without power and evacuees from both storms filled ArkLaMiss shelters.

Cotton farmers took stock of crops damaged from rain and wind.

Seven people had been killed directly by the storm, and more than 100 died from indirect causes.
