A 73-year old “undocumented” Sikh woman, who lived in the US for over 30 years, was detained and deported to India by immigration authorities in California earlier this week without being given the chance to even say goodbye to her relatives, her advocate said.

A widow, she had moved to the US in 1990s and had been living there with her two sons. She used to work there as a tailor in a clothing shop in Berkeley and was lovingly called as 'Bibiji' or 'Dadima'.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Deepak Ahluwalia, the advocate, said, “Bibi ji (Harjit Kaur) is on her way back to Punjab. She has already landed in India.”

Ahluwalia posted on Instagram that she had exhausted all her options and that the real problem was that the ICE was unable to procure her travel documents that she required
