HOUSTON — A disabled pony stolen from a north Houston property is back home safe after a community effort helped track him down.

The 15-year-old palomino pony, named Funky Monkey, was taken from his owner's property on Barrett Street near Tidwell and I-45 early Tuesday morning.

Surveillance video shows three suspects dragging Funky through a back fence, across a wooded area filled with trash and tires, through a shopping center, and then over Tidwell Road. Hours later, witnesses reported seeing him in a neighborhood nearly 4 miles away.

"The easiest for the general public to understand would be he has diabetes for ponies, we've had him for about 12 years, he was rescued from the slaughterhouse pipeline," said owner Vanessa Riley.
